Double engine change for Ferrari after Friday failure

Ferrari has replaced power unit elements in both cars following the engine failure in Sebastian Vettel's car on Friday.

The team made the switch ahead of Saturday practice, with both Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc running a new ICE, turbocharger and MGU-H.

Ferrari confirmed: “After yesterday’s engine failure on Seb’s car, as a precaution, we have changed Charles’ power unit.

“This is also penalty free as we have not exceeded the number of components allowed in the regulations.”

With six minutes remaining in the second practice session, Vettel pulled off the track to retire.

Television images showed a trail of fluid his car deposited on track, although this was largely clear of the racing line.

Ferrari finished practice two with Leclerc sixth and Vettel fourteenth. With the new power units onboard, both climbed one place on Saturday morning.

Both cars qualified inside the top 10 a week ago at the British Grand Prix, with Leclerc finishing third and Vettel 10th.
