Sebastian Vettel has revealed he feels for the passionate Ferrari Formula 1 team as a tough two years lie in wait.
Scuderia chairman John Elkann has all but written off this season and the 2021 campaign, claiming the team's focus is now on "laying the foundations for being competitive and returning to winning when the rules change in 2022".
Vettel, now in his sixth season with Ferrari, knows how strong the desire is to win again at Maranello.
"Obviously, I feel for the team because I've been a part of it, and I still am until the end of this year, and everybody is extremely committed and working very hard to make Ferrari win.
"There are reasons why that didn't happen in the past. We had good years, we had not so good years, but in terms of passion and dedication, I think there are no doubts."
Other than a surprise podium for Charles Leclerc in the season-opening race in Austria, Ferrari has since struggled, notably due to the SF1000 lacking pace.
Vettel feels this is the first time in Leclerc's career he has been forced to contend with a setback.
"I think I have had the experience in the past where maybe years were not so good and I think for Charles it is maybe a bit different because everything has always been up, and now it's the first down again from last year.
"On the other hand, I think, obviously, he is motivated to go through, and in this regard, I wish the team all the best.
"For me obviously, after this year it is a bit irrelevant and I will see where I end up."
