Red Bull avoid PU changes as Honda apply "countermeasures" after Austria issues

Honda has applied "countermeasures" to ensure there will be no repeat of the issues that blighted Red Bull's return to Formula 1 action in Austria on Sunday.

Both Max Verstappen and Alex Albon endured electrical issues with their power units, forcing the former out of the race early on, while the latter retired in the closing stages soon after an unrelated collision with Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton.

Honda immediately launched an investigation, following which it is now confident of avoiding a similar problem in this weekend's second race at the Red Bull Ring, the Styrian Grand Prix.

It means Verstappen and Albon have avoided any power unit changes, and so will run with the same spec as in the first race.

“The problems on the two Red Bull Racing cars in the last race were both electrical, but caused by different issues," said Honda’s Formula 1 Technical Director Toyoharu Tanabe.

“We have been analysing both these matters together with the teams and we have put countermeasures in place for this weekend.

“As our power units do not have any damage caused by those issues, Max and Alex will use their same PUs this weekend."
