Giovinazzi: My fight will get me to Ferrari

Antonio Giovinazzi has said the fight he has shown in overcoming difficulties in his short Formula 1 career will show that he is worthy of a future Ferrari spot.

Giovinazzi was Ferrari's third driver in 2017 after finishing runner-up in GP2 the previous year and was called up to Sauber for the first two races of 2017 to substitute for the injured Pascal Wehrlein.

After a fine debut in Australia, Giovinazzi crashed twice during the weekend in China, but he believes the way he has fought back since shows he has what it takes to get a top drive.

"It was difficult that moment, because finishing my early career in F1 with that grand prix was not easy for confidence and everything," Giovinazzi told the Sky Sports F1 Vodcast.

"I always believe in myself, I always fight and finally, I get back the opportunity to race as an official driver last year.

"I grew up really well during the year, but this year we didn't race so it was really difficult for me, but I am still young, so I'm sure that if I continue like that and continue to fight and work really hard I can finally have that possibility in the future"

With Carlos Sainz being confirmed as Sebastian Vettel's replacement at Ferrari for 2021, Giozinzzi appears to have been left out in the cold.

However, the Italian believes it was too early to consider moving up to the Scuderia, and the fight he will show will win over team principal Mattia Binotto in the long run.

He added: "I think in the end, [I've] never in my career had something easy. I always fight, I always did a lot of sacrifice to have something back and I think now maybe was not the right time, just after 23 Grand Prix last year.

"I've only had one season, and I know that Charles also had one season and then went to Ferrari, but from my side, I think we struggled second part of the season with the car, so as I grew up as a driver the results were not really there.

"I am still part of Ferrari and also what Mattia says that they still follow me and that my career is something really great."
