Claire Williams: Outside investment "will ensure the future sustainability of our team"

Williams deputy team principal Claire Williams insists that the search for investment into the Formula 1 team can only be viewed as a positive.

Last in the constructors' standings for two years and now without a title sponsor. The cold facts make hard reading for the Williams team.

“It’s funny. I’ve been getting so many emails almost of condolence from people," Williams told the Sky Sports F1 Show. "I get that and it’s much appreciated, but I’m looking at this from a really positive perspective. This is something that will ensure the future sustainability of our team, and Williams, the Williams family, has always been about that.

“We put our team first, and we put its success first. The investment that we are looking for is going to help us achieve that and so for me, this is a good thing that we are doing and it shouldn’t be looked on in a negative way, in a disappointing way or anything other than a positive.

“The people around here understand that, the people at Williams understand that, and they’re excited. This can potentially give us a very positive future.”

It is true, after a 2019 campaign which yielded just a single point, the only way is up for Williams.

A question on the lips of every Formula 1 fan, is 'will Williams remain Williams?'. A name that resonates through the history of the sport, Williams was able to offer some comfort.

“I can absolutely, whole-heartedly promise you that we have a fully funded budget to continue this year's calendar, whatever the calendar may look like," said Williams.

"The car will still be a Williams, it will still be the same people involved in putting that car on the grid on a Sunday, George [Russell] and Nicholas [Latifi] will still be in it.

“The only thing that will change is that we will be that we will have a slightly different livery, and we will be giving it, like we would each and every year we go racing, our absolute all to do the best job we can."
