Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton has been named Britain's wealthiest active sportsperson.
The Sunday Times Rich List reports that Hamilton's wealth now stands at a staggering £224million, an increase of £37m on the 2019 publication and takes into account the Mercedes driver's £40m-per-year contract alongside bonuses and other endorsements.
Hamilton has now overtaken former England football captain David Beckham as the wealthiest active sportsperson in the 32-year history of the Rich List publication.
In 2013, the year of his retirement, the combined wealth of David and Victoria Beckham stood at £200m.
The only other active sportsperson to feature on the full combined Rich List is golfer Rory McIlroy. The four-time major winner has seen a £32m increase in his wealth, which now totals £170m.
