Jos Verstappen says it is "nice" Formula 1 rivals Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel "get a bit nervous" when they see Max Verstappen hunting them down on track.
Verstappen senior feels having arguably the weakest machinery of the top three teams has forced the Red Bull driver to be more aggressive.
"People often forget that Max regularly had to take more risks, because he was in a slower car than, for example, Hamilton," Verstappen told De Telegraaf.
"Max always drives at the sharpest edge. People want to see that too. Vettel and Hamilton get a bit nervous when he drives behind them.
"Nice, isn't it?"
After signing a three-year contract extension with Red Bull in January, Verstappen has the advantage of knowing where his F1 future lies.
In contrast, Hamilton is constantly being linked to a move to Ferrari while speculation has started over the future of Mercedes in the sport, with the financial landscape ever-changing in the current global pandemic.
Vettel, too, has been linked with a move away from Ferrari, perhaps to McLaren.
"If you have to negotiate a new contract in this situation, it will be a distraction," added Verstappen.
"We are very happy at Red Bull and I really think we are closer this year than last season ."
