London e-Prix cancelled - the future of other events remains unclear

The Formula E season ending double header in the United Kingdom has been cancelled, officials now considering using alternative permanent venues for the race.

A fixture on the calendar in both seasons one and two of the championship, London was due to return to Formula E in season six.

"We are writing to provide you with an update on the latest status of the 2020 London E-Prix, following the event site at ExCeL London being transformed into a temporary field hospital, NHS Nightingale, to aid the fight against coronavirus," said Formula E in a letter to ticket holders.

"Formula E and the FIA unequivocally supports the repurposing of the facilities during the current health crisis. However, given the circumstances and owing to the preparation and time needed to ensure the operational excellence of all our events, Formula E and the FIA have taken the decision to cancel the London E-Prix."

It is understood that the championship are evaluating the possibility of running on a permanent circuit such as Brands Hatch, Silverstone or Donington - the latter being used as the official testing venue for Formula E in the first two seasons.

"We are evaluating the possibility of hosting a race in the UK later in the season. However in the current circumstances this event may need to take place behind closed doors," continued the letter.

"The priority of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship is the health and safety of our fans and the entire Formula E community of staff, teams, manufacturers, partners and drivers, as well as the citizens and residents of the cities in which we race."
