Wolff Aston Martin investment 'nothing to do with Formula 1'

Mercedes Formula 1 boss Toto Wolff says that his investment in Aston Martin was simply a move to take advantage of the low stock prices and nothing more.

When news broke that Wolff had invested £37 million in Aston Martin, rumours intensified that the Austrian was on the brink of moving to Racing Point, the team that will become the Aston Martin Formula 1 team in 2021.

“The stocks are very low right now and the new product line is great,” Wolff told Austrian paper Osterreich.

“It is a personal financial investment in an automobile manufacturer that has nothing to do with Formula 1. And after [coronavirus] there will be a normal time when people will buy cars again.”

Wolff has repeatedly rebuffed claims that he is to join the Aston Martin Formula 1 effort, his personal friendship with Racing Point owner and Aston Martin chairman Lawrence Stroll leading former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone to suggest that it is 'more than likely' that Wolff would jump ship.
