Sir Chris Hoy to race in F1 Virtual GP

Sir Chris Hoy makes his first foray into the world of esports, debuting for the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team in the official esports event running in place of the postponed grand prix.

After a brace of esports events took the place of the Australian Grand Prix and showed that there was an audience for such races, Formula 1 quickly announced that they would be replacing all scheduled 2020 races with esports events until such time as the season can properly begin.

Numerous real world Formula 1 drivers are expected to competed - Lando Norris and Max Verstappen having already raced in the existing events - but Red Bull have confirmed that British cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy will compete alongside Red Bull athlete Phillip Eng.

Since retiring from cycling, Hoy has made the transition to sports car racing with Aston Martin, racing in the 24-hour of Le Mans alongside Martin Brundle in an Aston Martin Vantage GT4.

The race, being competed on the official Formula 1 2019 computer game will be broadcast live on Sunday March 22 with the race beginning at 8:10pm GMT.
