Dutch Grand Prix doubts increase as the Eurovision Song Contest is cancelled

The Dutch Grand Prix is in serious doubt following the cancellation of this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam.

Formula 1 bosses have confirmed they are in talks over the postponement of the race at Zandvoort, that is currently due to return to the calendar for the first time since 1985, on May 1-3.

A statement on March 13 read: "Formula 1 and the FIA expect to begin the Championship in Europe at the end of May but given the sharp increase in COVID-19 cases in Europe in recent days, this will be regularly reviewed."

But with the cancellation of one of the largest music events in the world set for a date two weeks after the race, it is a case of when and not if there will be an official announcement.

It is understood Formula 1 bosses are seeking to bring forward the three-week summer shut down in August to a period in late March-early April while the Coronavirus pandemic is ongoing and with races cancelled or postponed.

While the teams, primarily those with financial interests seem keen, the suggestion is team personnel with family holidays booked for the summer are far from pleased.
