Russell completes 2019 whitewash over Kubica

George Russell qualified ahead of Williams team-mate Robert Kubica at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to complete a season whitewash over his team-mate.

Kubica will depart F1 in a racing capacity after the Yas Marina race, with his astonishing return from life-threatening injuries having been played out to the backdrop of Williams' desperate under-performance.

And although Kubica has scored Williams' sole point of the season so far, at the chaotic German GP, he has qualified slower than rookie Russell at every event.

Russell will be joined at Williams by Nicholas Latifi in 2020.

Having beaten Kubica in qualifying in all 21 races this season, Russell's whitewash is the second in as many seasons in Formula 1.

Fernando Alonso also beat Stoffel Vandoorne in every qualifying session at McLaren in 2018, although both drivers departed F1 at the end of last season.
