Verstappen backs FIA as Ferrari scrutiny grows

Max Verstappen has backed the FIA issuing more technical directives , having angered Ferrari with his views on the matter at the United States Grand Prix.

Ferrari endured a struggle at the United States GP, Vettel retiring early in the race and Charles Leclerc struggling to keep pace with the top three, using an old spec power unit.

The performance came after a week in which the FIA had issued a Technical Directive to teams – prompted by a fuel flow proposal from Red Bull which was ruled illegal and seen as an attempt to get to the bottom of Ferrari's greater power.

A fresh TD has been issued before the Brazilian GP, regarding the burning of liquids used in cars' cooling systems, widely reported to have been aimed at the Scuderia again.

In response to Ferrari's disappointing form in Austin, Verstappen said: "That's what happens when you stop cheating."

Mattia Binotto and Leclerc reacted furiously at the time, while Vettel said at Interlagos that the Dutchman's comments were unprofessional and immature.

But Verstappen says the right process is being put in place.

"It's good, the FIA is definitely on top of it, and it's now very clear I think for everyone what is allowed and what is not allowed," Verstappen said.

"I think from their side, it's good that they wrote everything. Of course it's a very complex regulation with everything.

"For them it's also not the easiest job to be on top of everything straight away, because like I said, it's a lot of rules."
