Verstappen reacts to Albon's Red Bull deal

Max Verstappen has backed the decision to retain Alexander Albon as his team-mate at Red Bull in 2020.

Albon and Verstappen have combined since the summer break, when Pierre Gasly was demoted for poor performance, handing the Thai driver a promotion just 12 races into his F1 career.

In that time, Albon has finished every race in the top six and has moved above Gasly and Carlos Sainz into sixth place in the drivers' standings.

While Albon is perhaps yet to show his true potential in the RB15, Verstappen says his newest colleague is well-liked within the team and is happy to continue with him for another year.

"He's a nice guy and I think for him the last 12 months has been a bit of a rollercoaster," Verstappen said of Albon.

"Of course he's very laid-back, very relaxed. And people like him in the team.

"He's easy-going, which I think helps. And he's quick, he's doing his job, he's getting the points. So I think it was the smartest way of continuing.

"At the end of the day it's not up to me, of course, to judge his performance. It's Christian [Horner] and Helmut [Marko], of course, who make the decisions."
