Leclerc, Ferrari put everyone at risk - McLaren

McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl lashed out at Ferrari for the decision to leave Charles Leclerc out on track with a broken front wing at the Japanese Grand Prix.

Leclerc sustained damage in a first-lap collision with Max Verstappen, but toured three full laps of Suzuka with the left-hand endplate of his front wing dragging along the ground, causng vibrations to run through the car to such an extent that Leclerc drove one-handed while trying to hold his wing mirror in place.

When the car finally shod its broken parts, a large piece of debris struck the halo of Lewis Hamilton's car behind.

Another piece of carbon fibre got lodged in Lando Norris' brake ducts, forcing him into a pit-stop that impacted his strategy – naturally to the ire of his boss.

"We obviously strongly disagree with competitors leaving cars out on track with entire front wing end plates hanging down, putting everyone at risk," Seidl said.

"Unfortunately, this end plate then exploded, catching in our front-right brake duct debris from Ferrari.

"The brake temperature went through the roof so we had to box him to clean it. And then the race was over.

"I mean he still tried and did a great drive in terms of pace also to get back but it was not possible."
