Ferrari Monza engine upgrade confirmed

The FIA has confirmed that both Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel have taken Ferrari's upgraded engine for the Italian Grand Prix.

Mattia Binotto had said pre-race that Ferrari had planned to fit the upgrade, although predictions of a wet race left it uncertain if Ferrari would take the new engine.

However, the third-spec engine of 2019 will be fitted to the red cars, after customers Alfa Romeo and Haas used it in Belgium last week.

Ferrari are hot favourites for victory at Monza, given their straight-line advantage, but the Tifosi have not celebrated a home win since 2010.

Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly's new engines were confirmed by the FIA, with Honda having revealed in the week that they would drop to the back of the grid as a result. Neither Ferrari driver will be penalised as the upgrade is their third of the season, within the permitted allocation.

Lando Norris takes his fourth new engine of the year in Monza also, and will drop to the back of the grid with Verstappen and Gasly.
