Hubert killed in Formula 2 crash at Spa

The FIA has confirmed that Anthoine Hubert was killed after his involvement in a crash during Formula 2's feature race at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Hubert collided with Juan Manuel Correa coming out of Raidillon, with footage showing serious damage to his Arden car.

Television footage did not air replays of the crash or footage of the scene.

Marino Sato, Giuliano Alesi and Ralph Boschung were all caught in the incident but emerged unharmed, while Correa is in hospital in a stable condition.

An FIA statement read: "The scene was immediately attended by emergency and medical crews, and all drivers were taken to the medical centre.

"As a result of the incident, the FIA regrets to inform that the driver of car #19, Antoine Hubert (FRA), succumbed to his injuries, and passed away at 18:35.

"The driver of car #12, Juan-Manuel Correa (USA), is in a stable condition and is being treated at the CHU Liège hospital. More information on his condition will be provided when it becomes available."

Hubert won GP3 in 2018 and the rising star was a member of Renault's young driver programme.

The Frenchman secured his first F2 race win in Monaco this year in a thrilling photo finish and followed that up with another victory on home soil at Paul Ricard.
