The 'Red Bull want Alonso' BS train rolled around early this year...

Reports have emerged in Spain claiming that Fernando Alonso was offered a race seat at Red Bull for the umpteenth time as they looked to replace Pierre Gasly recently.

By the double world champion's own reckoning, this may well be the eighth time that Dr Helmut Marko and Christian Horner have come crawling over broken glass, desperate to have Alonso's special brand of team bonding over at Milton Keynes.

Marko has previously confirmed that Alonso was indeed a Red Bull target in 2008, only for his financial demands to kybosh the deal.

But Alonso has suggested the Austrian overlord returned just about every year since in an attempt to secure his signature.

Mundo Deportivo has now suggested that Marko has once again sent the Formula 1 equivalent of the "you up?" DM, after Gasly was kicked out of bed for sinking under the pressure of teaming with Max Verstappen.

It's claimed Alonso once again rejected Red Bull, because he wants to wait for a team that is winning races to make him an offer.

Ermm…. *checks notes*...*shrugs*

If two wins in 12 races aren't enough for Alonso, maybe he's after the only other team that has tasted #1 champagne this year – Mercedes.

On that, Toto Wolff recently told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "We don't want to repeat certain stories lived when [Alonso and Lewis Hamilton] were together with McLaren."

Hamilton recently suggested he wants to see Alonso back on the grid, and suggested that Red Bull would be a likely landing spot as Gasly was struggling, and yet to be canned.

The decade-long tease looks set to go on, however, and we're already looking forward to 2037 when multiple drivers' champion Verstappen decides to retire and a half-blind Alonso emerges to publicly denounce his interest in the drive.
