After an abject first half of the 2019 season from Pierre Gasly, Red Bull made the decision on Monday to drop the Frenchman from their team in favour of Alexander Albon of Toro Rosso. But, have they made the correct choice?
After Daniel Ricciardo made the shock move from Red Bull to Renaullt last winter, Red Bull were forced into finding a replacement, with Gasly subsequently fast-tracked from junior team Toro Rosso. However, it hasn’t worked out, with Gasly the only driver out of the top six yet to claim a podium spot.
He has been comfortably, constantly outperformed by team-mate Max Verstappen despite having the same car.
Red Bull chiefs Helmut Marko and Christian Horner have defended their driver throughout the campaign, and insisted that Gasly would not be replaced before the end of the current season.
