Without Max Verstappen, F1 would be boring - Horner

Christian Horner might well be biased, but that won't stop him heaping immense praise on his Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, claiming that the sport at the moment would be plain 'boring' without the influence of the Dutchman.

Verstappen has won two of the last four races, both times in thrilling fashion, firstly hunting down Charles Leclerc to take the chequered flag in Austria, then besting the wet conditions in Germany to win once again.

He also secured pole in Hungary and the 21-year-old has matured greatly from a difficult 2018 season which saw him suffer a series of DNFs.

Horner is in no doubt that without the impact of Verstappen on the circuit, the overall spectacle of the sport would be greatly diminished, and the fans are lucky to have him.

He said: "Thank God for Max Verstappen and Red Bull in F1 at the moment because otherwise it would be a pretty boring show.

"It is great, races like [Hungary], even though we didn't come out on top, for F1 that is what fans want to see.

"The last four races have been great races after the bore-fest of France and hopefully with the tracks coming up there is more exciting racing to come and if the grid does concertina we can have Max racing against Lewis and Ferraris up there as well.

"It is bright for the future."
