Red Bull confirm driver plans after Kvyat outshines Gasly in Germany

Red Bull chief Dr Helmut Marko has dismissed any suggestion that Pierre Gasly will be replaced by either Daniil Kvyat or Alexander Albon before the end of 2019, despite the Frenchman's ongoing struggles.

A crazy German Grand Prix ended with Kvyat on the podium for the first time in three years and Albon taking his best F1 result in sixth, albeit arguably deserving more after driving a Formula 1 car in the wet for the very first time in the Hockenheim race.

Gasly, by contrast, had another nightmare encounter losing several places from fourth on the grid at the start and then struggling to break back through the midfield.

He was twice passed on-track by Albon and then clumsily crashed into the Thai driver while trying to pass him, damaging his Red Bull for the second time in the weekend and retiring.

Kvyat and Albon are increasingly being mentioned as potential replacements as Gasly struggles to match the output of Max Verstappen, who was victorious in Germany.

However, Marko says a change will not be made before the end of 2019.

"This year we will not change anything," Marko told Motorsport.com. "We will finish the season with the same line-ups that we have now.

"Kvyat has always been an excellent driver in the rain. Before the start of the race, I told him that it was his weather - and he carried out his task to the maximum."

Gasly is now 107 points behind Verstappen in the drivers' championship, and just seven points ahead of McLaren's Carlos Sainz – who Red Bull rejected in favour of the Frenchman to replace Daniel Ricciardo.
