Valtteri Bottas beat Lewis Hamilton to pole position for the British Grand Prix by six thousandths of a second, ending his team-mate's streak of home pole positions.
Hamilton had taken Saturday honours at the last four editions of the Silverstone race, but was edged out as he just failed to improve enough with his second run in Q3.
Charles Leclerc took third for Ferrari and will start on the soft tyres, holding a slight advantage over the Silver Arrows, who set their Q2 times on mediums.
Sebastian Vettel could only go sixth-fastest in the other Ferrari, struggling for pace throughout the day.
Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly were fourth and fifth-quickest in the Red Bull – the first time the Dutchman has outpaced his team-mate all weekend.
