Williams to ditch Mercedes engine in favour of Renault?

Williams could be set for a major shake-up for the 2020 campaign, as reports have surfaced linking them with a change of engine supplier from Mercedes to Renault.

The British outfit are one of the most successful teams in the history of Formula 1, having won nine constructors championships with only Ferrari having won more. However, their last title victory was 22 years ago, and they have gradually dropped down the ranks of the most competitive teams.

As of 2019, they are by far the worst team on the grid, with Robert Kubica and rookie driver George Russell regularly finishing at the back of the field.

Their lack of speed has never been more evident that the current campaign.

Over the years, they have had 10 different engine providers - Ford-Cosworth, Honda, Judd, Renault, Mecachrome, Supertec, BMW, Cosworth, Toyota, and Mercedes-Benz.

According to AutoBild, Williams are looking to change their fortunes by leaving Mercedes in favour of Renault, who have been enjoying success in the 2019 season with McLaren, the fourth-best team after the first nine races.
