The 2019 Formula 1 season has become characterised by its investigations, the longer and more farcical the better it seems… but this truly is ridiculous. Robert Kubica was named Driver of the Day at the Austrian Grand Prix and now it is being looked into!
Of course, Kubica taking the award is dripping in the inexplicable The Williams driver finished stone last, and three laps down on race-winner Max Verstappen, who overtook six cars to recover from eighth to win Red Bull's home race for the second year in succession.
Verstappen's win took more than three and a half hours to be confirmed as his race-winning pass on Charles Leclerc was referred to the stewards.
In the gap, it seemed that fans hijacked the DOTD vote, perhaps using it as a way to offer some sort of protest at the overregulation of F1, with the last three races impacted by the stewards.
But even that would come with accompanying red tape, with RaceFans quoting an F1 official that "a technical problem which is currently under investigation" might have been to blame.
Just don't let poor Emanuele Pirro anywhere near this one…
