Ferrari promise car 'evolutions' for French GP

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto claims that the team will arrive at the Circuit Paul Ricard for the French Grand Prix with “small evolutions” to their car, which they hope will allow them to determine the best course of action for future, more significant upgrades.

The Scuderia have had an abject beginning to the season, as they have allowed Mercedes to win seven straight races since the start of the campaign, albeit with their loss at the Canadian GP only due to a penalty controversially given to Sebastian Vettel.

After that result, Mercedes extended their lead in the constructors’ championship to 123 points over Ferrari, while Lewis Hamilton gained ground on Vallteri Bottas and Vettel in the driver rankings.

The performance in Canada was encouraging, though, and Binotto is hoping that some changes to the car for France can give them more data to ensure better car development.

“Following Canada we definitely want to get back on track and go racing with our rivals once again,” the Ferrari boss said.

“In France we will have a few small evolutions, elements that represent for us a useful step in defining the direction we will take in developing the car.

“What we will be bringing won’t be the solution to our problems, but the technical feedback we get from these evolutions will be important for the next steps we take.

Binotto recognises that the Paul Ricard may not suit the strengths of the Ferrari SF90, but refuses to give up on a positive result in France this weekend.

“Paul Ricard has been a tricky circuit for us last year and we know that this kind of track isn’t particularly favourable for our package, but nothing is impossible so we will be ready to do our best,” the Italian added.
