Aston Martin has confirmed that the Valkyrie hypercar, designed by Red Bull's design genius Adrian Newey, will seek Le Mans 24 Hours glory starting from 2021. Aston Martin's return to the World Endurance Championship in the hypercar class is likely to be followed by other manufacturers.

McLaren have recently confirmed an interest in returning to WEC, while Ferrari are also reportedly looking into it.

The Valkyrie will be entered exactly 100 years since Aston Martin's first entry and will likely be a top target for many drivers hoping for victory in endurance racing's flagship race.

Aston Martin Vice President David King said: "The FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans represent the ultimate challenge for the Aston Martin Valkyrie – the world’s most extreme hypercar.

"Designed and built with the purpose of pushing boundaries on the road, it's natural to conclude that the next stage in its development would be to measure its capabilities on the track.

"I can think of no better way to do that than to compete in a world championship and the most prestigious and famous race of all."
