Leclerc avoids Monaco GP grid penalty

Charles Leclerc breathed a sigh of relief as he avoided a grid penalty for the Monaco Grand Prix, despite being caught speeding under the Virtual Safety Car period brought out by Ferrari team-mate Sebastian Vettel crashing in Saturday's third free practice session.

Leclerc was quickest of all in FP3, and will have the chance to build on that impeded in qualifying.

The VSC period was short-lived, but Leclerc failed to stick to the maximum time between marshal posts.

However, stewards did not deem the transgression worthy of a grid drop, instead giving him a reprimand, putting the home driver in the fight for pole position, if Ferrari can keep pace with Mercedes once again.
