Hamilton 'buys $40million Manhattan penthouse'

Lewis Hamilton has purchased a $40million penthouse in Manhattan, according to the Wall Street Journal, the property sitting just one block away from another home that the five-time world champion is thought to own in the plush Tribeca neighbourhood of New York City.

The Journal claims that Hamilton has purchased the living space at 70 Vestry Street – a building part-owned by NFL star quarterback Tom Brady, who was present at last year's Monaco Grand Prix.

Hamilton's previous dip into the New York property market was a $43million purchase of a five-bedroom property at 433 Greenwich Street – literally around the corner from his new pad.

Perhaps Hamilton wanted the unobstructed view of the Hudson River that his new dwelling offers, but there is plenty more on offer.

According to the building's website: "Multiple setback terraces grace the building, offering residents spacious outdoor settings from which to enjoy dramatic city, river and sunset views."

Hamilton officially resides in Monaco, owning an apartment in a block in which several Formula 1 drivers also live, but the five-time world champion is an avid traveller, often hopping across continents when he's not racing.

His passions away from the track often necessitate this and the launch of Hamilton's clothing range with Tommy Hilfiger has taken him to many exotic locations in the past year.
