Gasly disqualified from Azerbaijan qualifying

Pierre Gasly was disqualified from qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix after his Red Bull was found to have broken fuel flow regulations. It makes little difference to the Frenchman, who had been due to start from the pit-lane regardless and will still do so.

It is the third time already this weekend that Gasly has troubled the stewards in Baku, having been hit with his pit-lane race start for failing to report to the weigh bridge in Friday practice, before a change of gearbox earned him an immaterial five-place grid penalty.

Although it had been suggested that Red Bull may use this to utilise Gasly in giving a tow to Max Verstappen down the main straight, he instead bailed out of qualifying in Q2.

He had previously topped the timesheets in Q1, although it was later found that his car had exceeded the legal fuel flow limit of 100/kg per hour in doing so.

Gasly will hope that Baku's wild nature, which has been in evidence plenty already this weekend will help him cut through the field come race day.

Perhaps also serving as inspiration will be Alexander Albon's performance for sister team Toro Rosso last time out in China, the Thai driver having secured 10th place and a point from the pit lane in Shanghai.
