Red Bull motorsport adviser Dr Helmut Marko has dismissed any notion that Ferrari's 2019 car is illegal. The Italian team stunned rivals Mercedes and Red Bull in Bahrain with a power unit that was superior to the tune of a huge five tenths per lap on the straights alone.

Although Mercedes have taken 1-2 finishes in each of the opening two races of 2019, Ferrari's apparent advantage has the Silver Arrows and Red Bull concerned.

As their rivals search for clues behind their advantage, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has revealed that he thinks Ferrari's Shell fuel in 2019 smells like grapefruit.

However, Marko has picked up an altogether different scent from the Scuderia garage, although sees no reason to call foul play on the SF90.

"It's true that there is a funny smell from the Ferrari garage," Marko told Auto Bild.

"But it's not grapefruit. It's strawberry!

"We assume that Ferrari has found the perfect fuel mix for its engine and done a really good job. Now we all have to do that.

"Their car is not illegal."

Marko believes Red Bull have progress to make on the aerodynamic side of their car, having claimed that their new Honda power units are capable of competing with the mighty Ferrari and Mercedes counterparts.
