This weekend will see the 1000th World Championship race come to pass at the Chinese Grand Prix. To mark the occasion, we looked back at the previous milestone moments in history, and given the notoriety that follows some of these races, we now can't wait for Sunday!
From the seething peak of the Senna-Prost feud, to a race result decided in a court room and another tainted by deep controversy, this collection of races has it all.
Some of the biggest names in motorsport history were milestone winners - who do you think will add their name to this list in Shanghai?
Stirling Moss - often regarded as the greatest driver to never be crowned world champion - was victorious in this race around the imposing Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit. Moss won for Lotus-Climax from Ferrari's Wolfgang von Trips and Phil Hill, who was crowned champion at the next race in Italy as a result of his team-mate's death in an accident.
Jackie Stewart secured a grand chelem on the famous streets as he won from pole and set a new lap record on his 57th tour of Monte Carlo. The race was captured in the documentary 'Weekend of a Champion'.
Ronnie Peterson took victory for Lotus from the Tyrrell of Patrick Depailler by less than half a second after a thrilling last-lap battle - it was the only lap of the entire race that he held first place on.
Niki Lauda was victorious on home soil, aided by McLaren team-mate Alain Prost spinning on an oil leak earlier in the race, Lauda pipped Prost to the title by half a point come the end of the year.
The final race of 1990 was won by Nelson Piquet for Benetton, but that was largely inconsequential. This picture shows the traditional end-of-season driver portrait, with neither Alain Prost or Ayrton Senna present - the Frenchman still incensed at losing out on the title in the previous race in Japan after their pair collided at the first corner at Suzuka - for the second year running, of course.
Jacques Villeneuve won back-to-back South American races, having succeeded two weeks prior in Brazil. Williams team-mate Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Ferrari's Michael Schumacher retired early, paving the way for the Canadian to take victory in his title-winning year.
A treacherous wet race caught out numerous drivers before Mark Webber wrecked his Jaguar on the pit straight and Fernando Alonso ploughed through the wreckage, ending the race with debris strewn over the track. Kimi Raikkonen was awarded the race win on the day, but Jordan's Giancarlo Fisichella was retrospectively given the win in a Paris court room the following week.
Fernando Alonso won for Renault, but the result was tarnished a year later when it emerged that his team-mate Nelson Piquet Jr had deliberately crashed in order to bring out a safety car and give Alonso a pit-stop to refuel with racing neutralised. The 'Crashgate' scandal was described in The Times as "the worst single piece of cheating in the history of sport".
With Mercedes suddenly holding a tight grip over Formula 1 at the dawning of the V6 Hybrid era, this battle between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg goes down as a modern classic. Before relations between the childhood rivals became strained and fractious, this thrilling on-track joust saw the pair jovially rib each other after Hamilton came out on top - a precursor for much of their rivalry.
