Floersch posts update as recovery from Macau crash continues

Sophia Floersch has revealed that she has been released from hospital and is set to fly home after undergoing emergency spinal surgery on fractures sustained in a terrifying crash during the Macau Grand Prix's Formula 3 crash over a week ago.

Floersch was sent airborne into a photographers' bunker after crashing with one rival and skating down the circuit towards the Lisboa bend without the use of brakes.

Having collided with Jehan Daruvala, she was launched up by kerbs and hit the car of Japanese driver Sho Tsuboi.

The German teenager suffered a fractured spine, but avoided spinal cord damage, and is on the road to recovery after 11 hours of surgeries.

Floersch thanked the doctors in Macau's Sao Januario General Hospital, as well as her many well-wishers as he provided an update on her condition eight days after the crash.

Speaking to reporters at the hospital, Floersch vowed to return to Macau to race in 2019.
