Vettel annoyed after towing Raikkonen to pole

Sebastian Vettel cast a downbeat figure after he was beaten to pole position at the Italian Grand Prix by Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen. Vettel had been tipped to secure the Scuderia's first pole position on their home turf since 2010, but ended up towing Raikkonen to Formula 1's fastest ever lap.

Raikkonen clocked one minute 19.119 seconds at Monza - a tenth clear of Ferrari in an all-red front row.

Vettel initially celebrated over team radio, but said "we'll speak after" when he was informed he had finished P2 behind Raikkonen.

The German was sent out ahead of his team-mate on both of their Q3 runs, prompting immediate speculation over Ferrari's tactics, but he stopped short of criticising the team when reacting to a stunning session.

"A good result for the team, not entirely happy with my last run, Kimi was just a little too fast in the end," Vettel said.

He added: "To be honest it was not a tidy lap I think the other laps were actually better ones. I lost time pretty much everywhere.

"It was just not a good lap and not good enough. Lucky to get second and not third, but it's just not good enough.

"Clearly I wasn't happy but I don't tell you why."
