Toto Wolff: Raikkonen was deliberate or incompetent

A clearly frustrated Mercedes chief Toto Wolff has slammed Kimi Raikkonen for his coming together with Lewis Hamilton on the first lap of the British Grand Prix, branding the Finn's actions 'either deliberate or incompetent', as he shunted Hamilton back into last place.

Raikkonen touched wheels with Hamilton, sending the Brit into a spin and meant that the defending world champion had to fight through the entire grid to claim second spot in his home GP.

Hamilton was clearly disgruntled when speaking to Martin Brundle post-race, referencing the 'interesting tactics' of Ferrari.

But Wolf was less cryptic in his criticisms, saying that Raikkonen's actions came from one of two clear places.

He said: "The judgement has to be whether it is deliberate or incompetent. It was an amazing recovery from Lewis, a fantastic drive from him and helping us with damage limitation.

"[The moment with Kimi was] an unfortunate racing incident. But it's the second time we get taken out [after Valtteri Bottas in France] and it's a lot of constructor points.

"In the end we gained track position and we finished two and four, which is better than we were before the safety car. Bottas was defending like a lion but in the end he simply ran out of tyres.

"I'm not happy. To get taken out on lap one puts you immediately on the back foot."

Sebastian Vettel claimed victory in the race and moves eight points clear of Hamilton in the driver's standings, with the next race in Germany in two week's time.
