Formula 1 fans track-side will have access to the same angles and information as television viewers at home after it was confirmed that FanVision technology will return to grands prix. Returning to F1 events for the first time since 2012, F1 says the devices will allow "grand prix attendees to dive deeper into the event experience".

Branded 'F1 Vision' the devices will be available to rent at grands prix, beginning with this weekend's in Spain, giving attending fans access to live broadcasts, radio commentary, team communications and live timings.

Fans who have attended race days will now that mobile connectivity is not always easy to come by, but connection to Wi-Fi is not required to operate F1 Vision, which will be fed by "FanVision's dedicated digital transmitters".

Originally introduced at NASCAR events more than a decade ago, FanVision was available to fans at last year's United States Grand Prix, but the technology will now be rolled out across the majority of the remaining races in 2018.

"FanVision's return to Formula 1 will absolutely enhance the at-event engagement level for fans of our sport," said F1's digital new business manager Albert Goma.

"Through the partnership with FanVision, Formula 1 fans will experience real-time technologies like in-car cameras and unrestricted team communications from their grand prix vantage points."
