Stroll thinks he got 'everything' out of Williams car
Lance Stroll reckons that he got 'everything' out of his new Wiliams vehicle in the Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit on Sunday as he finished fourteenth, and has lamented the safety car period which he believes cost him a few more positions.
So far the 2018 campaign has been miserable for Williams, with new boy Sergey Sirotkin and Stroll struggling with what many figures in the sport believe is the worst car on the grid.
On Saturday, it looked like the disappointments would continue as Stroll failed to make it out of Q1, but the Canadian came out of the starting grid with pace on Sunday and eventually made it up to 14th from a starting position of 18th.
It is the opinion of Stroll that he maximised the potential of his FW41.
“It was a great start again and, like in Bahrain, I made up five or six positions at the start,” said the Williams man.
“Then after that I believe we raced the maximum out of the car.”
During the action at the weekend, a clash between Toro Rosso drivers Brendon Hartley and Pierre Gasly left some debris on the track which resulted in a safety car period, and Stroll believes this hampered Williams' ability to make up even more positions.
“We were not very lucky with the safety car, because the guys on two stops got a free pitstop in front of us.
“I think the Force Indias were possible to beat today, not on pure pace, but with the good start and everything.
“It was a bit of a shame, but I am really happy with the race. We got our strategy done and I believe we got everything out of it today.”
Stroll, Sirotkin, and Williams as a team have yet to pick up a point this season.
