FIA issue official statement as Brazilian Grand Prix qualifying CALLED OFF

The FIA has confirmed that qualifying at the Brazilian Grand Prix has been postponed.

After McLaren's Lando Norris took the victory in the sprint race on Saturday, qualifying for Sunday's main event was set to take place at 2pm local time. However, a rainstorm that hit the track quickly put an end to this.

Drivers, teams, fans and broadcasters alike all waited patiently as the FIA issued update after update, determined to get the session underway.

In the end, though, daylight began to be lost in Sao Paulo, with the FIA officially calling qualifying off close to 5pm local time.

FIA call off Brazilian GP qualifying

The FIA statement read: "The Qualifying for the São Paulo Grand Prix is postponed,"

"The decision was taken due to the lack of visibility caused by the level of rain we have experienced in the past few hours.

"There is a lot of standing water on parts of the circuit which renders conditions unsafe.

"As much as we would all like to see competition on track, the safety of drivers, team members, volunteers, officials and spectators is our main priority."

The FIA has confirmed qualifying will now take place on Sunday November 3rd

As a result of the above postponement, qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix is now set to take place on Sunday, November 3rd.

What time the session will begin remains unclear at this stage, however, with the FIA yet to confirm a start time.

As part of their above statement, they revealed: "A decision on a start time for Qualifying tomorrow morning will be taken as soon as possible."

Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that the session will go ahead as planned, either, with yet more rain forecast at Interlagos throughout the morning and afternoon on race day.

Not only could this affect qualifying, but the Brazilian Grand Prix itself.
