F1 Results Today: Ricciardo incident investigated after CRASH causes red flag

All 20 drivers on the grid got their first chance this weekend to have a proper dry run at Zandvoort in FP2, after a chaotic early session.

The Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez looked a little off the pace on their qualifying simulation runs, with even the championship leader only setting the fifth fastest time of the session.

He was outdone by both McLarens and both Mercedes, with George Russell setting the fastest time of the day to lead Oscar Piastri, Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris.

Carlos Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg's sessions both ended early, the former heading back to the garage with a gearbox issue and Hulkenberg's rear locking up into Turn 1 and sending him spinning gently into the barriers, bringing out a red flag. Meanwhile, Zhou Guanyu is under investigation for a pit-lane incident with Daniel Ricciardo.

A chaotic first practice session gave little true indication of which teams have the best pace this weekend, with rain and high winds disrupting running.

Hulkenberg was one of the handful of drivers out in the worst of the conditions, with his multiple excursions across the gravel showing, perhaps, why others preferred the shelter of their garages.

Verstappen came out when the rain stopped and the track began to dry, pitching his Red Bull into a spin on a push lap but getting out of the incident unscathed in front of his home fans.
