Red Bull star Sergio Perez is out of qualifying for Sunday's British Grand Prix after crashing out of Q1.

With just over seven minutes remaining of the session, the under-fire Mexican skidded off track in testing conditions, resulting in an early red flag being brandished.

It's another devastating blow for the 34-year-old, who has endured a miserable season so far.

Perez has been a consistent backup to team-mate and reigning champion Max Verstappen since making the move to the Milton-Keynes based outfit in 2021.

Despite making a promising start to the campaign, he has failed to achieve a top-five finish since Round 7 and currently sits fifth in the drivers' standings.

Perez's season goes from bad to worse

He signed a new contract with the team earlier this season, but many questioned that decision given his disappointing form.

He has, however, been backed by Red Bull boss Christian Horner to get his season back on track.

Now due to start from P19 on Sunday, he will have his work cut out to get in amongst the points on what is forecast to be a treacherous afternoon's racing.

Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and George Russell went first and second-fastest respectively in Q1 in front of their home fans.
