Ricciardo suffers NIGHTMARE qualifying session at the Belgian Grand Prix

Daniel Ricciardo endured a miserable qualifying session in just his second qualifying session back in Formula 1 after being dumped out in the first session at the Belgian Grand Prix.

On a wet track, the times tumbled as the track gradually dried during Q1 at Spa, and the Australian looked to have secured a sixth spot to move into Q2.

However, the Australian had his lap time deleted after running slightly wide off track after Eau Rouge at the top of the hill into Radillon meaning he will start Sunday's race on the back row in 19th alongside the Haas of Nico Hulkenberg.

Ricciardo was furious over the radio, and his misery would have been compounded after seeing team-mate Yuki Tsunoda comfortably reach Q2 after going seventh fastest overall.

Charles Leclerc went fastest in the session for Ferrari after being the last to cross the finish line, underlining the rapidly improving track conditions.

Ricciardo will now be looking to improve his own fortunes on Sunday, having returned with a highly credible 13th place at the Hungarian Grand Prix after replacing Nyck De Vries.
