Biography of Kevin Magnussen

Kevin Magnussen is a Danish F1 driver currently racing for the Haas team.

Magnussen, born on October 5, 1992, in Roskilde, is now 31 years old and in his second spell with Haas.

He rejoined the team in early 2022 after the departure of Russian Nikita Mazepin.

As well as that double tour of duty with Haas, Magnussen has also enjoyed spells with McLaren and Renault.

Kevin Magnussen in F1

Magnussen began his F1 career in 2014 with McLaren as he replaced Mexican star Sergio Perez in the seat alongside former world champion Jenson Button.

The Dane would claim 55 points during his rookie season, including the first podium of his career in his very first race. That was a third-place finish in Australia, which later became second following the disqualification of home favourite Daniel Ricciardo.

Magnussen would finish 11th in the championship standings with 55 points from his rookie season, but that did not mean he retained his seat for 2015. Instead, the Dane was demoted to test driver as two-time world champion Fernando Alonso arrived to take his seat.

The 2016 season saw Magnussen move on to Renault, where he drove alongside Britain’s Jolyon Palmer. He would score points in Russia (P7) and Singapore (P10) en route to finishing 16th in the championship standings.

Magnussen began the first of his two stints with Haas in 2017, beginning a four-year spell with the American team. He finished 14th, 16th, 9th, and 20th in the standings in a rollercoaster spell.

The highlight of those four years came in 2018, when he racked up 56 points to finish in the top 10 at the end of the season. The Dane finished in the points on 11 separate occasions, the best being P5s in Bahrain and Austria.

2020 proved to be the end of the road (for now) for Magnussen at Haas, as the team moved on from both him and Frenchman Romain Grosjean.

He was back though in 2022 after the team terminated its contract with Nikita Mazepin following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Magnussen signed a multi-year deal to partner German prodigy Mick Schumacher.

While Magnussen secured 13th place in the drivers' standings in 2022 with 25 points, 2023 proved to be a more challenging year for the Danish driver. He only managed to score three points, which placed him in 19th place.

Despite this, the American team retained Kevin Magnussen and his new teammate Nico Hulkenberg for 2024, with both contracts running until the end of the season.
