Biography of Sergio Pérez

Sergio Perez, nicknamed 'Checo', is a hugely popular Mexican F1 driver racing for the Red Bull Racing team.

Born on January 26, 1990 in Guadalajara, Perez is now 34 years of age.

He stands at a height of 5ft 8ins tall (1.73m).

Sergio Perez in F1

Perez is one of the most experienced drivers on the grid.

The Mexican made his debut in 2011 with Sauber after finishing runner-up in the previous year's GP2 Series.

Perez's first season was a strong but complicated one with Sauber disqualified from the season-opening race for running an illegal rear wing and the Mexican suffering a concussion in Monaco which ruled him out of the following race in Canada.

An even stronger second season, which included three podium finishes, caught the eye of McLaren and Perez joined the team in 2013.

Sadly, the dream move turned out to be more of a nightmare due to McLaren being at the start of a downward spiral. So poor was his year, that Perez finished one place lower in the standings and on considerably fewer points than he had scored with Sauber in the previous campaign.

Perez moved again in 2014, beginning a seven-year relationship with Force India and playing an integral role in keeping the team alive when financial troubles hit in 2018.

During his time at Force India/Racing Point, Perez scored six podiums and took the team's first race victory at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, his penultimate race for the team.

In 2021, Perez replaced Alex Albon at Red Bull, where he partnered Max Verstappen. The move was a justifiable reward for his consistently strong performances in recent years.

In his first year with Red Bull, Perez performed well, if not spectacularly.

A first win with the team came in Baku , with further podiums ensuring Red Bull made the right decision to sign the Mexican.

His defence of Hamilton at the final race of the season led Verstappen to call Perez "a legend".

In 2022, Perez was unable to match the performances of Verstappen, who scored 15 wins in 22 grands prix.

He still scored victories in Monaco and Singapore, and there were an additional nine podiums, but he only managed third in the standings, 149 points behind Verstappen.

The 2023 season was also dominated by the incredible talent of Verstappen, and no one on the grid could keep up with the Dutch driver's pace.

Verstappen went on to claim his third consecutive world championship after setting a record of 19 wins out of 22 races.

But despite this, Perez did manage to achieve a couple of victories. He emerged victorious in the Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan races, which made him one of the only two drivers to stop Verstappen from achieving a perfect win percentage.

Perez finished the 2023 season with two race wins, two pole positions, six podium finishes, and two fastest laps.

He amassed a total of 285 points, which earned him second place in the drivers' standings—his personal best in F1 thus far.
