Monaco to welcome 7,500 spectators for grand prix weekend

Monaco Grand Prix organisers have confirmed that 7,500 fans will be allowed for this year's event on May 20-23.

Last year's grand prix had to be cancelled for the first time in 65 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year the F1 race will become only the second to allow paying fans after Bahrain admitted those vaccinated against Covid-19 or who had recovered from the virus.

The grands prix in Imola and Portugal were held behind closed doors, while the organisers of this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix are allowing just 1,000 circuit members on race-day only.

Access for the three days of the Monaco event on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday will be available for all the seated grandstands but limited to 40% capacity, which totals 7,500 per day.

On Friday, when a number of support races are run, access is limited to just 3,000 spectators in grandstands K and T.

The move follows a decision to allow 6,500 spectators to attend this weekend's Formula E.

Additional measures in place state that fans watching from balconies must be a metre apart from one other, while boat capacity is restricted to 12 people per craft.
