Vettel buoyed by new Aston Martin parts for Spanish GP

Sebastian Vettel will be handed a boost for this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix with the addition of new parts on his Aston Martin.

The F1 team fast-tracked a floor upgrade that was introduced on the car of Vettel's team-mate Lance Stroll only for the Portuguese GP.

But it was another wretched weekend for the team overall as Vettel and Stroll managed just 13th and 14th from grid positions of 10th and 17th respectively.

Stroll declared his qualifying "a disaster" as he "couldn't lean on the car" and he "didn't have any confidence" in it, although he at least felt it was "a bit stronger in race conditions".

Despite the issues, Vettel at least feels the new floor is still an improvement after a miserable race in which he did not have "enough pace or consistency to hold onto the group fighting for points".

Vettel added: "On the positive side, I will have some new parts on my car this week, which we feel are a step in the right direction.

"But the real priority is to have a clean Saturday, which is the key to a better Sunday.”

After pushing for third in the constructors' championship throughout last season in its former guise as Racing Point, the new-look team has struggled across the first three races to date, collecting just five points to sit seventh in the standings.

Following its first pointless score of the campaign from a race, Aston Martin is now a team under pressure going into this weekend's more representative circuit in Barcelona.

"Obviously, we are disappointed not to have been able to score any points," said team principal Otmar Szafnauer.

"But the good news is that the Spanish Grand Prix is this weekend, so we have a chance to correct that in just a few days’ time.”
