Mercedes to complete filming day in Bahrain

Toto Wolff has confirmed Mercedes will complete one of its filming days in Bahrain following the pre-season test.

In recent years, Mercedes has completed both its launch and a filming day on the same date at Silverstone.

Several teams, including Red Bull and McLaren, have already used one of two permitted filming days to shakedown their 2021 machinery.

But Wolff revealed the Mercedes W12 will not turn a wheel ahead of the pre-season test, and instead will run two days after on Tuesday, March 16.

“It always rains at Silverstone and we decided we don’t want to stand in the freezing rain again," joked Wolff at the Mercedes W12 launch event.

“We will do the filming day between the Bahrain test and the Bahrain race on Tuesday.

"This is, I think, more representative and better pictures that can be utilised than we could probably get at Silverstone.”

Last year, pre-season testing was split into two three-day tests across a two-week period.

This year, in a bid to reduce costs and a reflection of the large carryover of parts from 2020 into the coming season, there are only three days.

The test is taking place on March 12-14 at the Bahrain International Circuit, with the opening race at the same venue a fortnight later.
