Survival the only positive for Haas from dismal 2020 - Steiner

Haas team principal Guenther Steiner insists the only positive to come from the 2020 Formula 1 season was the fact the team "survived".

The team finished second-to-last in the constructors' championship, scoring just three points split between two races whilst suffering from the financial burden induced by the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent delay to the season.

When asked what positives if any had come from the season, Steiner replied “What have we done right? We survived! That is what we have done right.

“I think there was a big chance that we were not here anymore but I think everybody pulled together and we are here to stay.

“I think, all in all, maybe we haven’t been good at the track but I think we have been good for the future of Haas F1 and for Formula 1.

"I think, as much as we think they don’t need us, I think Formula 1 needs teams like Haas F1.”

Haas enters the new campaign with an entirely new line-up of drivers consisting of F2 champion Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin after deciding not to continue with Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen.

The two rookies have already been warned by Steiner, however, they face a difficult first year as the team has opted to direct its focus on next year's car when new rules come into force rather than this season's challenger.
