F1 dismiss Domenicali Ferrari return link

Formula 1 has dismissed speculation Stefano Domenicali is to return to Ferrari as its new chief executive officer.

The Italian manufacturer is looking for a CEO following the shock resignation of Louis Camilleri on Thursday after just two and a half years in the role for what he has described as "personal reasons".

Executive chairman John Elkann has taken up the position on an interim basis while Ferrari search for a replacement.

That has resulted in Domenicali being linked with the post, despite the fact he takes over from Chase Carey as F1 CEO on January 1.

Domenicali was team principal at Ferrari from 2008 to 2014, leading the Scuderia to what was its last world title to date with the constructors' championship in his first year.

But that move has been categorically dismissed as a spokesperson said: “Stefano is joining Formula 1 on the first of January and is looking forward to this new and exciting challenge. Any rumour or speculation otherwise is wrong."

In 2016, Domenicali was appointed as CEO at Lamborghini, while he has also served as head of the FIA's Single-Seater Commission.
