Kvyat remains in the dark over AlphaTauri future

Daniil Kvyat has said there is "no news" on his AlphaTauri future as speculation grows that Formula 2 driver Yuki Tsunoda will take his drive for 2021.

Kvyat is currently in the middle of his third stint with the Red Bull junior team. The Russian entered F1 with the outfit, then Toro Rosso, in 2013 before joining Red Bull in 2015 only to be replaced by Max Verstappen four races into 2016.

He did not race in 2018 but was brought back to the team just one year later.

Asked of his future, Kvyat replied: "I have no news regarding that from my side at the moment.

"I am focused on race-by-race and trying to do my best job possible for the team. We have lately had a lot of good races and Portugal was a bit of a one-off race where things didn't go great.

"I just intend to keep doing the best job possible until the end of the year and in every race and then we will see."

Linked with the second seat at AlphaTauri, the team having already confirmed Pierre Gasly, is Yuki Tsunoda.

The 20-year-old Japanese, Honda and Red Bull backed driver completed 352km in the 2018 STR18 at Imola on Wednesday and, should he secure the required super licence points by finishing at least fifth in the F2 standings, he is currently third, appears the most likely replacement.

Despite the speculation, however, AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost said: "It depends what we do with the second car. It is not decided yet.

With regard to Tsunoda, he added: "He will do the young driver test day in Abu Dhabi and then we will see where we are."
