Alfa Romeo expect power boost from Ferrari in 2021

Alfa Romeo team principal Fred Vasseur has said he expects a "step forward" from the Ferrari power unit in 2021.

Three teams run Ferrari power in 2020 and all three have struggled for straight line pace across the season.

However, Alfa Romeo has enjoyed an upturn of form in recent races, securing six of its eight constructors' points in the past five races.

For 2021, the cars will remain largely unchanged but Vasseur is confident the team can make a step forward.

"Even if the car is frozen, we have still plenty of jobs to do," said the Alfa Romeo boss.

"The aero package is not frozen at all, we have a new regulation on the aero. It means that there is a new package for everybody."

Ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Alfa Romeo announced it will field an unchanged driver line-up of Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi in 2021, providing a consistent performance base on which to build.

Speaking directly of his expectations from Ferrari, he added: "We are also expecting to do a step forward with the engine by the way, but I think that everything is all prepped for next year."
