Bottas after Russian GP win: 'To my critics, f**k you!'

Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas sent a strong message of defiance to his detractors following his victory at the Russian Grand Prix.

Bottas took advantage of a 10-second penalty handed out to team-mate Lewis Hamilton for two practice start violations pre-race to take the chequered flag in convincing fashion from Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

The Finn had taken criticism of late for some of his performances, with many suggesting Mercedes had re-signed him too soon for next season after Hamilton raced to a significant lead in the driver standings.

But after crossing the line in Sochi he was clearly thrilled with the result and yelled over team radio: "A nice moment to thank my critics. To whom it may concern, f**k you."

In his podium interview, Bottas was clearly relieved to have claimed victory after a difficult run of late, and even referenced a bee which hit his visor, interrupting his start.

He said: "I was a bit compromised at the start because there was a massive bee or something that hit my visor as I was braking, so I couldn't really see when I should brake, so that's why I went too deep.

"Once I was in clean air the pace was pretty awesome. I wasn't concerned at any point, because looking at the track today I knew where the opportunities will be. Never give up, it was a good day."

Bottas closed the gap on Hamilton in the driver's championship and added: "It's nice to get a win, it's been a while. I need to try and keep the momentum. There are still quite a few races to go, you never know."
